3 day hike in July

We are thinking about doing one of these walkabouts for our annual girls trip this year. There are 5 of us, and will be going in late July. Which segment would you recommend for that time of year? We are more interested in seeing natural beauty, and less interested in populated beaches. We would enjoy staying in small beach towns though.

  • Natasha, I think you are planning on hiking the Southern California Coast, and late July is a great time.  The ocean temperature will be perfect.  It may be hot inland, but pleasant along the coast.  You'll enjoy warm, balmy nights.  There are some wonderful three-day hikes in "Walkabout Malibu to Mexico:  Hiking Inn to Inn of the Southern California Coast."  The most popular hike is from Newport Beach to San Clemente.  You would need to combine the first two days into one, a 11.8 mile walk.  Along the way, you will get to savor alluring swimming beaches, great wildlife, and fun beach towns.

You could also try the Santa Catalina to Newport Beach Walkabout, starting on the beautiful and fun island, taking the ferry to Long Beach, and walking south for three days.  Or you could try the Oceanside to La Jolla Walkabout and experience both popular and quiet, secluded beaches.  You will visit three fun seaside towns with great dining and entertainment.

Any one of these walkabouts would be a great adventure for you and your friends.

    Happy Hiking,

    Tom
