  • Tyler,

There are a number of hostels along the route from Malibu to Mexico.  They are inexpensive and often in great locations.  I’ve listed some below. The first three are hostels of the premier hosteling organization in the U.S., Hosteling International.  You can make a reservation at http://www.hiusa.org.

Santa Monica Hostel (Exploring the Malibu Coast and Santa Monica to Santa Catalina): This is in a prime location – two blocks from the beach and one from the nightlife of Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade.  A friendly staff will greet you.  They even throw in a complimentary breakfast.

Point Loma Hostel (La Jolla to Mexico): Small, intimate, and friendly, this hostel is a short walk from Ocean Beach on the way to Coronado.

San Diego Hostel (La Jolla to Mexico): In the heart of San Diego’s Gas Lamp District, it is short walk or bus ride from the Broadway Pier.

Banana Bungalow Hostel (La Jolla to Mexico): Right on the beach at Pacific Beach.

    Best wishes,

    Tom Courtney
