Marin Headlands Hike

I am hiking from the Marin Headlands to Bolinas in late October.  Does anyone know where to stay so that I am close to the trailhead?  Should I go to Sausalito and take a taxi?  Where is the best place to leave the car?  Should I drive it to Bolinas, take a taxi back to Sausalito for the night, and then hike to the car?  Any advice would be most welcome...MJ

  • Mary Jane, I've parked overnight at the Headlands several times with no trouble. You could park at the hostel, at the foot of the Miwok Trail or at the parking lot at the end of the road near Rodeo Beach.

You can use public transport for this whole trip. There's detailed info on transit options at the end of the Marin Coast walkabout guide.

     Here are some resources:

Depending on where you're coming from, I would suggest leaving the car at home and considering the exploration of our terrific public transportation systems to be a part of the adventure.

    Anyone else have tips?

Let us know what you decide to do and how it goes, Mary Jane.

    Best wishes,

    Emily

    • Thank you, Emily.  I've booked the Hotel Sausalito for the first and last nights of the trip.  I'll be leaving the car in the public garage across the street from the hotel and taking a cab to the trail head.  At the end of the trip we'll take the Stagecoach back ($1 for seniors!) from Bolinas, which will drop us right near the hotel (at the ferry landing).  It's going to be a great trip (mid-October)!
