Newport to San Clemente (2)

Went to this area to repeat the highlights of last September"s trip Much modified, and still a lot of beautiful scenery and walking.

Flew to John Wayne and took 3 buses to San Clemente.  Got off the #1 bus at Ralph's so we could stock up on groceries. Hiked about 20minutes down to the pier.Stayed in the Beachcomber right on the cliff above the Pier. Beautiful weather, sunsets, etc. Walked south on the walking trail for around 2 miles in the morning. Lots of walkers, runners, dogs. Next day we hiked the other way to the coffee shop near the Metrolink train stop. Caught the #1 bus to the shopping center near Crystal Cove. Stocked up at Trader Joes and hiked the paved trail to Crystal Cove (south). Stayed 3 nights at Crystal Cove, great appetizers supplemented with our cooking. Relaxed atmosphere, lots of campers at the beach. Walked North one day and South the next all along the beach. Took 3 buses back to John Wayne and flew back to SF.

Maybe Catalina next year

  • Judy,

Your trip sounds wonderful.  I am envious that you stayed for three nights at Crystal Cove.

    • Thanks! The secret for Crystal Cove is to get on a faster computer 10 minutes before 8am on the first of the month, 6 months ahead. Then practice searching and clicking ahead of time. Click as the clock turns 8 and don't be picky about which place you get!

Well worth it for the location, such a large undeveloped area in the middle of overdevelopment!

Not the greatest beds and furniture. Views and community feeling and great food! People having such a good time just digging in the sand with their kids and walking up or down to discover the tide pools, etc.
