SF to Half Moon Bay

We are attempting SF to Half Moon Bay in May and here is what we came up with so far.

Can anyone confirm our plans or offer suggestions?

Looks like we will have to go inland to residential streets at Daisaku Ikeda Canyon due to limited beach access safely. That detail seems to be missing from the route directions on page 139 of Walkabout Northern California. Daisaku Ikeda Canyon is north of Mussel Rock. After Mussel rock we will come to Mori point: see detail of route on the parksconservancey map below.

shelldance orchid gardens (see on detail of google maps of mori point area) might be of interest if we feel we have time to check it out. https://www.yelp.com/biz/shelldance-orchid-gardens-pacifica

Follow caldera creek trail down to rockaway beach and Best Western lighthouse hotel. 105 Rockaway Beach Ave, Pacifica, CA 94044 (650) 355-6300 About 7.2 miles first day

Day 2: Follow directions in book that takes us along a bike path along San Pedro Creek and onto Old San Pedro Mountain rd which is shown on the map below.

  • Michelle,

Your plans for the San Francisco to Half Moon Bay Walkabout look great, and May should be a wonderful time to hike his beautiful coast.  Staying on the beach at  Daisaku Ikeda Canyon should be no problem unless you hit it at high tide.  We did get one report of a party reaching this beach, just north of Mussel Rock, at high tide, and they needed to backtrack and walk through the neighborhood.  Try to reach this point during the window a few hours before to a few hours after low tide.

The rest of your plans look great, and your links to maps will be helpful for others who are planning this journey.

    Have a great walkabout,

    Tom

    • Thank you Tom and keep up the good work!
