Hiking Inn to Inn
I saw an announcement in theTravel section of the Valley Times that Tom would be speaking at the Berkeley REI in July. Unfortunately, I will be out of town at that time, so I thought I would come to the Walkabout California website to see if there is a schedule of other appearances. I don't see any announcement -- not even one for the REI event in July.
Is there such a schedule anywhere? Are there any other talks, or is that the only one? I'd probably attend a talk if I saw one nearby in the Bay Area at a convenient time.

Thanks for the reply, Tom. I may make it to the Concord talk.
I also got the email with the event announcements shortly after posting the question. And I noticed I got a shout-out in the announcement email, which was kind of fun to see! I hope others do find the gear list helpful.
Turns out I was traveling for most of the end of July and into August, and I missed all the talks. Will there be any more?
While I was disappointed to have missed a chance to attend a book event, I had a great time on my various vacations, one of which included a backpacking trip along part of the Tahoe Rim Trail. One segment of the TRT runs from the Big Meadow trailhead on Highway 89 and goes through to the Echo Summit trailhead on Highway 50. We did that part on August 10, 11, 12, and then we continued on the TRT into Desolation Wilderness for another 5 nights, out to Emerald Bay on the shores of Lake Tahoe. The weather was absolutely great, and the wildflowers were the best I have ever seen. This year, the snow lingered much longer into the summer than usual, so we did have to cross a number of snow fields on the hike. It also meant there were more mosquitos, due to much more moisture from melting snow later in the season (the same thing that accounts for the great wildflower display).
I would imagine that anyone doing the Emigrant Trail inn-to-inn walkabout in the Carson Pass area or the Tahoe Basin trip would encounter similar conditions this month --- fantastic weather, great wildflowers, a bit more snow fields than expected, and a few more mosquitos than usual (although these are mostly a problem in the evening, by which time you should be enjoying wine and dinner at the inn, not applying DEET and hiding in your sleeping bag like me and my backpacking buddies --- smart of you).
Eric,
I hope you've had a chance to attend a talk this season. If not, there are three coming up on the calendar in the South Bay and Livermore. Check out the Events Page for new events as they're added. Tom will be sharing about a new walkabout from Auburn to Sacramento that I bet you would enjoy.
Best wishes,
Emily
