  • Margie,

I haven't walked this section, but here is the route recommended in "Hiking the California Coastal Trail, Volume Two."  Take the route from "Walkabout Malibu to Mexico" on Harbor Blvd. through San Pedro, passing the L.A. World Cruise Center and under Vincent Thomas Bridge.  Harbor Blvd. becomes Front St.  Continue on Front St.  At Pacific Ave., veer right on John S. Gibson Blvd., which after a few miles becomes Harry Bridges Blvd.  After another three miles it angles left and becomes Alameda St.  Turn right after a mile on Anaheim St. and walk east passing beneath Terminal Island Freeway and Long Beach Freeway.  Cross the L.A. River and enter Long Beach.  Turn right on the bike path adjacent to the river and follow it to the waterfront.  This will take you to Shoreline Village.

You should take a good road map, as these directions are 15 years old.  It looks like an eight mile hike through a very industrial neighborhood.

Let us know how it goes.

    • I bussed through this section to Belmont Shores and ate at Open Sesame on 2nd street.  It was very good.  Then I walked north to Long Beach along the foot path on the beach next to the bike path.  After overnighting in Long Beach, I walked to Seal Beach using your book as a guide.
