I'm not in California, but I have fond memories of visiting Marin with my brother about 10 years ago. So I'm wanting to do the Marin walkabout in February or March. I've done multi-day hikes in 40 degree weather, so I'm not too concerned about the temperatures I'd encounter. I'm more concerned about rain. It looks fairly common in spring, but how much rain is likely to fall when it comes? A drizzle, light rain, downpoor?
Thanks for any thoughts on the weather in spring.

I live in Sausalito, just a few miles from the Headlands. Sorry for the late post, but I just signed up. It's been a dryer winter here, with wonderful days a plenty. Rain can be heavy on any given winter day, but generally is lighter rain. Fog is more prevalent in summer, but does add to the beauty of hikes and a pleasant coolness on summer days. Winter temps have started out around 42-45 degrees, climbing to mid-50's to low 70's. I'd say a good range has been about 62. On weekdays, you can have the trails almost to yourself. We actually like hiking in winter best, as the cooler temperatures suit us better. Hope this helps. I hike the Headlands a couple of times a week on average, and it's beautiful.
Thanks Peter.
Unfortunately, I had to delay my hike. I'm hoping for next spring now.
Robert,
You are right, the temperatures in February and March should be in the 40s and 50s along the Marin Coast. You might even run into a few glorious spring days in the 60s. This is California's rainy season but it is common to have a week of sunshine. Most of the rains are light, but we can get some good downpours. I have hiked in storms with good rain gear, had the trails to myself, and stayed warm by hiking. End the day at a friendly inn with a warm bath, a glass of wine, and a sumptuous meal by the fireplace.

Thanks Tom. It sounds like I should prepare for heavy rain, that way I can be pleasantly surprised if it's nice weather.
