We are going to hike the San Francisco to Half Moon Bay hike in September 2013. If we are on Ocean Beach at high tide, are there just certain sections that are not hikable? What are the alternatives if a section is not hikable?

You may run into sections around the zoo that are difficult at high tide, but it is pretty easy to leave the beach and walk on streets or the bluff path to get around those sections. The hiking is easier - flat and firm - during the hours around low tide.
