I think you will really enjoy the hike from Ft. Funston to Half Moon Bay. This is a great time to be hiking the SF and San Mateo coastline, maybe the best weather of the year.
The longest stretch of beach hiking is the 4-5 miles from Ft. Funston to Pacifica. This beach is perfect for hiking. You don´t need to worry about the tides, but you will find the best hiking after high tide until well after low tide. The beach is firm and flat, a wonderful walking surface. I wore my hiking boots, and they worked well. That way I didn´t need to change shoes when the trail turned inland.
There are few options for meeting up at Ft. Funston, perhaps you could meet by the envirnomental education center. You should be able to connect with other people by cell phone. Sorry I can´t be more specific. I am writing you from northern Spain, hiking el Camino de Santiago de Compostela.
