We hike with a daypack. I'm sure you could coordinate with inn keepers to facilitate a drop off. I've often found that people are enchanted with the idea of hiking inn to inn and are eager to offer rides and support. But I hike with a small day pack including lunch, a clean (light) pair of clothes for the evening, water, a light rain jacket and a very small toiletry kit. You can find more thoughts on what to pack and lunches on the forums page.
Is there any service to move bags from inn to inn, such as they have in Europe, or is it expected that one carries all one's clothes in a light back pack?
