  • Michael,
That is great that you are going to hike the Marin Coast Walkabout in March. It is an incredible hike along a beautiful stretch of the California coast stopping at interesting inns with great food. This should be an easy hike for you after your 500 mile trek in Europe.

Here is some information on maps.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area website provides free maps you can download. They are good for the first two hiking days

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) sells topographical hiking maps and provides free maps you can download.

  • Michael,

Wow! From Venice to Munich - that sounds like an incredible adventure. I'd love to hear more about your trip. Would you consider starting a forum on hiking from inn to inn in Europe? To do this click on the Forum tab above and click the "Add a Discussion" link. We'd love to take a European trip hiking from inn to inn soon.

We did a portion of the Marin Coast trip last March from San Francisco to Stinson Beach, and the wildflowers were at their peak. I highly recommend it. You can find information about the natural history of the area, trails, lodging and dining from my dad's essay on the Marin Coast. If you have any questions feel free to send me a note. Thanks for supporting our project!

  • Michael,

Welcome to Walkabout California! We're still in the process of developing our site to serve as a resource to enable and inspire folks to hike whenever and wherever they can. Are you planning a trip to California? If you have any guidance to share on hiking on the East Coast or anywhere else we'd appreciate your contribution! Thanks,

    Emily
